Cargo volumes at Port Houston fell 20% YoY to 307,624 TEUs in August, marking the highest decline of the year.
Last August, the port processed a record 382,842 TEUs, which remains the port’s busiest month for container volumes. So far this year, the port processed the most containers for 2023 in July, handling 344,163 TEUs. Meanwhile, May marked the lowest amount of boxes processed at 300,482 TEUs.
Containers processed at the port are also coming down from a record July this year, which was the highest of any previous July on record.
