Dive Brief:
- Stellantis plans to open a 422,000-square-foot Mopar parts distribution center in Forsyth, Georgia, in a bid to strengthen its U.S. network, according to an Aug. 27 press release.
- The over $41 million investment — located about 60 miles south of Atlanta — will be equipped with automation to enhance order processing speed, accuracy and inventory control, per the press release. The tech aims to reduce wait times through faster stock turnover.
- The facility will feature a 16,000-square-foot AutoStore automated storage and retrieval system. AutoStore uses 66 robots to retrieve parts from bins and move them to processing stations where employees prep the final shipments.
Dive Insight:
The Georgia facility builds on Stellantis’ recent investments into its distribution network for Mopar, the company’s parts and accessories brand, per the press release. The distribution center will support customers of Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Ram, Alfa Romeo and Fiat brands in the Southeastern U.S.
The announcement follows the opening of Stellantis’ Mopar parts distribution center in East Fishkill, New York, earlier this year. The facility has a capacity of more than 500,000 square feet, stocks over 46,000 unique parts, and can fulfill more than 2 million shipments annually. The East Fishkill facility is where Stellantis debuted its "AutoStore" technology in the U.S.
In June, Stellantis announced plans to open a $388 million distribution "Megahub" in Detroit, which is slated to open in 2027. The automaker will continue operating three sites it uses in Michigan and Wisconsin until the Detroit hub opens. Other sites in Stellantis’ network will be revamped as part of the plan.
It is unclear when the Mopar hub in Georgia will be operational, and Stellantis did not respond to a request for comment by the time of publication. The Georgia center will be staffed by about 90 United Auto Workers-represented employees, per the press release.
