New Balance opened an 806,000-square-foot distribution center in Salt Lake City earlier this month, according to a company press release.
The facility is equipped with robots, autonomous vehicles and six miles of conveyance and can receive and ship roughly 100,000 units per day across footwear, apparel and accessories, per the release. The facility had received 4 million units and processed roughly 1 million by the release’s publication.
As the latest addition to the sneaker maker’s distribution network, the facility will support wholesale, retail and digital sales channels. The company is also ramping up the site to manage all West Coast inbound and outbound volume, per the release.
“This facility marks a critical investment to streamline our supply chain and support our growing customer base,” Chief Operating Officer Dave Wheeler said in the release.
Prior to the opening of the Salt Lake City facility, New Balance’s distribution operations were concentrated in the eastern parts of the U.S., with its other distribution centers in Lebanon, Tennessee, and Lawrence, Massachusetts.
“With our new footprint in Salt Lake City, we’re better positioned to meet our customer promise every day,” Wheeler said.
Beyond growing its distribution network, New Balance has also invested in its manufacturing operations. Last month, the Boston-based company added 120,000 square feet to its factory in Skowhegan, Maine, per a Sept. 22 press release.
