Dollar General named Matt Lucas as VP of supply chain optimization, according to a March 31 press release emailed to Supply Chain Dive.
In his new role, Lucas will leverage data and financial analysis to optimize network design, technology development and product flow improvements, per the release. Lucas will also guide priorities and investments in Dollar General’s supply chain network.
Lucas joined Dollar General in 2013 as an operations manager and has held many roles since then. Most recently, Lucas served as VP of distribution center operations, per the press release. Other roles include various senior director positions of distribution center operations, distribution center initiatives and distribution center operations of perishables.
Prior to joining Dollar General, Lucas also worked at The Home Depot, Williams-Sonoma and Target, per his LinkedIn profile.
The executive appointment is part of a larger reshuffling at Dollar General. The discount retailer also promoted Kyle Gorman to VP of distribution where he will lead operations at facilities in Alachua, Florida; Orlando, Florida; Bessemer, Alabama; Montgomery, Alabama; and Longview, Texas, per the release.
Gorman has been with Dollar General since 2016, holding several distribution leadership roles at facilities in Wisconsin, Indiana and Pennsylvania. Most recently, Gorman served as senior director of continuous improvement.
Other executive appointments at the retailer include Heather Land as VP, division merchandise manager of pOpshelf, Trent Napier as VP of construction, and Neal Norris as VP of financial planning and analysis, per the release.
The recent supply chain-related appointments come as Dollar General works to optimize its supply chain, with a particular focus on leaning out its inventory levels. Over the last few years, the discount retailer has slashed more than 1,500 SKUs from its portfolio, instead prioritizing products with faster turnaround times.
