- Claire’s on Monday opened a 248,000-square-foot distribution center in Elgin, Illinois, as it focuses on improving service levels and optimizing operations, a spokesperson told Supply Chain Dive in an email.
- The facility is designed to streamline inventory flow from receipt to fulfillment, per the spokesperson, by reducing unnecessary handling, improving inventory visibility, enhancing operational planning, and increasing speed and accuracy.
- “The opening reflects a broader evolution of Claire's operating model, creating a smaller, more dynamic distribution platform designed to improve planning, streamline inventory flow, and better support its 900 stores nationwide,” according to a press release emailed to Supply Chain Dive.

Claire’s is pushing to modernize its logistics network and increase speed-to-store capabilities while enhancing overall efficiency, with the Elgin facility a part of the effort. In practice, the model aims to support long-term efficiency across its buying, transportation, distribution and store operations.
“While customers see the brand's evolution through new experiences, products, and partnerships, the Elgin distribution center represents an important investment in the infrastructure supporting Claire's future growth and operational excellence,” per the press release.
Claire’s is one of a wide range of retailers debuting new facilities in pursuit of a more efficient distribution network.
Ulta Beauty, for instance, last month announced plans to open a nearly 400,000-square-foot regional distribution center in Utah, equipped with warehouse technology that aims to simplify product flow and overall operations.
Similarly, in May, discount retailer Dollar Tree opened a 1 million-square-foot distribution center in Arizona that aims to increase delivery speed to stores. Meanwhile, Burlington opened a distribution center earlier this month to speed supply chain throughput. The 2 million-square-foot climate-controlled facility is equipped with sortation and automated systems as well as custom software.
