Canada Post employees have launched a nationwide ban on overtime work, reintroducing turmoil for the carrier's customers just months after a peak season work stoppage.
The move follows the expiration of the Canadian Union of Postal Workers' labor contracts with Canada Post that cover rural and suburban mail carriers and urban postal operations employees.
A prolonged labor disruption would challenge Canada's parcel delivery industry and push shippers to seek alternative carriers, experts told Supply Chain Dive earlier this year. Canada Post is already feeling the sting of the overtime ban.
"By the end of last week our delivered parcel volumes were down by 50% over this time last year and continue to drop," the carrier said in a Sunday negotiations update.
As Canada Post and the CUPW continue to negotiate, Supply Chain Dive has rounded up our coverage of the situation to show how we got here.
