Dive Insight:
Boston Scientific’s main U.S. distribution center is in Quincy, Massachusetts. The company, which bought the Quincy site in 1998, turned the location into a 630,000-square-foot customer fulfillment center in 2017. Boston Scientific also operates distribution centers in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota, and Johns Creek, Georgia, a company spokesperson said via email.
The planned logistics site in Plainfield, a town just outside Indianapolis, will handle global distribution of Boston Scientific’s medical devices. Boston Scientific decided to build the site as part of its continuous evaluation of the operations and workspace needed to support its business strategy and growth, the spokesperson said.
One of Boston Scientific’s principal manufacturing facilities is about 40 miles from Plainfield in Spencer, Indiana. In 2022, Boston Scientific completed the renovation of the Spencer campus, which has worked on products including the company’s single-use endoscopy and urology scopes.
The Plainfield project continues the evolution of Boston Scientific’s U.S. footprint, which has been reshaped in recent years by changes including the closure of sites in California and Texas. The company has invested in other regions, including opening a facility in Maple Grove, Minnesota, and expanding its operations in Ireland.
