As the United States Postal Service (USPS) prepares to introduce new tracking access controls on April 1, 2026, the industry is entering a new phase in how shipment data is accessed and managed.

The updated framework moves tracking away from open, anonymous access toward a model that emphasizes authorization, attribution, and accountability. Under this approach, tracking activity is expected to be tied to identifiable entities and legitimate shipment flows.

While tracking itself is not going away, how it is accessed is becoming more structured.

17TRACK has been working closely with USPS and partners across the fulfillment ecosystem to support this transition.

“As tracking becomes more critical to fulfillment and customer experience, it also needs to be more reliable and accountable,” a 17TRACK spokesperson said. “We see this as a natural evolution of the industry.”

To align with the new framework, 17TRACK is implementing a series of updates to ensure compliant and stable access to tracking data, including enhancements to access control, traffic attribution, and system-level monitoring.

The company emphasized that maintaining service continuity remains a top priority during the transition.

“This is not just a policy change—it reflects a broader shift in how tracking is used across the industry,” the spokesperson added. “Our focus is to ensure that tracking remains both accessible and dependable under the new structure.”

As the new rules take effect, industry participants are expected to adapt to a more structured model, where tracking is no longer defined solely by data availability, but also by how and why it is accessed.
