Reliable Transportation Association (RTA), a managing general agent (MGA) and Lloyd’s of London coverholder, has announced the launch of a new Physical Damage insurance program tailored for commercial vehicle risks. The program is currently available in Pennsylvania, Ohio, Texas, California, Illinois, and New Jersey, with additional states—including Georgia and Florida—expected to come online in the coming months.
This newly introduced program provides direct coverage for physical loss or damage to insured vehicles, including protection against collisions, overturns, fire, theft, vandalism, and a range of weather-related events such as hail, flood, and windstorm. Whether the equipment is owned, leased, or financed, the program is designed to meet the real-world needs of transportation companies operating in today’s demanding environment.
Developed for a wide range of operators—from single-unit owner-operators to regional and national fleets—the program covers various vehicle types, including tractors, trailers, straight trucks, refrigerated units, flatbeds, and custom or specialized equipment.
The Physical Damage program is administered by Reliable Transportation Association and distributed through agents appointed with STAR Mutual Risk Retention Group (RRG), a licensed commercial auto liability insurer operating in 40 states. Appointed agents have immediate access to the program and can quote and bind coverage via RTA’s digital platform, designed to streamline and accelerate the entire process.
The program’s technology-enabled platform offers automated eligibility screening and five-minute quoting, with most risks able to be bound the same day. Policy documents, endorsements, and ID cards are delivered electronically, reducing paperwork for both insureds and their insurance agents.
In an industry where downtime equates to lost revenue, the program places emphasis on fast claims response and efficient appraisals. RTA works with a network of independent adjusters and appraisal partners to minimize claim resolution time and help insured vehicles return to service as quickly as possible.
Physical Damage coverage is relevant for transportation operations with equipment or vehicles customized for specific haul types. In many cases, these assets are integral to revenue generation and may not be easily replaced on short notice. Having comprehensive protection in place ensures that motor carriers and independent operators are not exposed to financial gaps in the event of total loss, damage from severe weather, or non-collision-related incidents such as fire or vandalism. This coverage is especially important for older or specialized equipment, which has become significantly more expensive to repair or replace due to inflation.
Eligibility is based on key risk indicators including motor vehicle records (MVRs), prior loss experience, and operational longevity. Fleets and owner-operators with strong safety practices and clean histories can benefit from more competitive pricing. The rating model is transparent, with premium changes directly tied to data such as power unit count, years in business, and use of telematics or safety programs. Importantly, the program does not involve premium financing—reducing billing complexity and eliminating added fees for insureds.
“This launch is about giving trucking operations better tools to protect their vehicles and stay on the road,” said a spokesperson for Reliable Transportation Association. “With reliable underwriting and a fast, digital workflow, this program helps fleets and owner-operators get the coverage they need—without delays, complexity, or surprise costs.”
Reliable Transportation Association continues to focus on delivering scalable insurance solutions for the commercial auto sector through technology-driven tools and data-informed underwriting. RTA works closely with appointed agents to bring new offerings to market that respond to the evolving needs of transportation professionals.
