Wayfair plans to close a plant in Erlanger, Kentucky, in 2026 after deciding to not renew its lease, the retailer told Supply Chain Dive in an email.
The facility is set to close on or about Sept. 30, 2026, impacting 215 employees, according to a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act notice dated Oct. 15. Terminations will occur in phases, starting Jan. 1, 2026.
“This layoff will be permanent, and none of the affected employees are represented by a union and bumping rights (that is, the right to avoid termination by displacing another employee) do not exist,” according to the WARN notice.
The closure is the latest step in Wayfair’s ongoing effort to optimize its logistics network, per the email.
As part of its logistics overhaul, Wayfair this year expanded its CastleGate logistics service, which enables the company’s suppliers to fulfill orders for all customers. Through the “Multichannel” expansion, the offering provides an alternative third-party logistics service that caters to big and bulky home goods.
Further, Wayfair announced plans last year to begin offering a consolidated delivery option for business-to-consumer shipments to drive efficiency. The retailer has also worked to improve its data analytics capabilities to optimize last-mile delivery methods for orders and trim logistics costs.
