Saks Global is permanently closing two distribution centers in Pennsylvania, impacting 590 employees, according to two Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification letters.
Saks plans to shutter its distribution center in Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania, per a notice filed Feb. 10. The closure will impact 155 employees, with layoffs slated to begin April 11 and continue through the end of the month.
On March 3, Saks filed another WARN letter outlining its plans to close a distribution center in Pottsville, Pennsylvania, laying off 435 employees in the process. Separations would begin May 3 through May 31.
Impacted employees at both locations are not represented by a union and do not have bumping rights, per the WARN letters.
Saks Global — the parent company to department stores Saks Fifth Avenue, Neiman Marcus and Bergdorf Goodman — filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in January after an ongoing financial struggles throughout the last year. The bankruptcy was, in part, attributed to low inventory because of unpaid invoices and communication issues with vendors. In February, Saks reported that nearly 400 vendors have since resumed shipments.
Saks has undergone other closures in the past year, including a fulfillment center in Tennessee. The WARN letter, which was filed in April 2025, said about 450 employees would be laid off in the process.
