GXO Logistics will lay off 85 employees and cease operations at a facility in Fort Wayne, Indiana, according to a Dec. 20 Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act notice.
The layoffs are expected to start Feb. 28 and be completed within a 14-day period, per the notice. All employees have been notified of their separation dates at the facility, located at 12301 Bluffton Road.
A GXO spokesperson said the facility's customer has decided to manage its own operations. "As a result, employees will have the opportunity to apply for positions with the client at the same facility or transfer to other GXO sites," the spokesperson said in an email.
The WARN notice came less than a week after the company disclosed it would lay off 123 workers and cease operations at a Kenosha, Wisconsin, facility starting Feb. 13. A spokesperson previously told Supply Chain Dive that the Kenosha facility's client decided to manage its own operations, and most of the employees would be offered jobs there.
GXO, an XPO spinoff, also ceased operations at two Texas facilities earlier this month.
At the end of 2021, GXO ran 316 U.S. facilities. The company operated with approximately 120,000 people, which includes 75,000 employees and 45,000 temporary workers via third-party agencies. Of its workforce, 29% was based in North America.
The company's revenue grew 16% YoY in Q3, and on an earnings call in November CEO Malcolm Wilson touted new contracts it signed, including with Boeing, Nike and Samsung.
